Wandsworth BJJ H&S policy

1. Statement of Intent
Wandsworth BJJ - UN/ ORTHDX is committed to providing a safe, clean, and positive environment for all members. We aim to manage risks associated with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training, prioritizing the health and well-being of all participants.

2. Responsibilities
Head Instructor/Owner: Responsible for overall safety, maintaining the premises, and reviewing this policy annually.
Instructors: Responsible for supervising sparring, ensuring proper technique, and ensuring safety guidelines are followed during class.
Members: Must report injuries, adhere to hygiene standards, and care for their training partners.
3. Hygiene and Infection Control
Mat Hygiene: Mats will be cleaned before/after every session with approved antimicrobial cleaner.
Personal Hygiene: Members must wear clean Gi/No-Gi attire. No shoes on the mats. Nails must be trimmed short.
Skin Infections: Open wounds or skin conditions must be covered. Members with contagious skin infections (e.g., ringworm, staph) are prohibited from training until fully cleared.
4. Training Safety and Supervision
Supervision: No unsupervised training permitted.
Sparring Protocols: Specific rules for intensity during sparring to prevent injuries (e.g., controlled contact). Students must respect "tap" requests immediately.
Warm-ups: Essential to attend to reduce muscle/joint injury risk.
Equipment: Regular inspection of mats for damage.
5. First Aid and Emergency
First Aid Kit: A fully stocked first aid kit is located at the premises.
Emergency Contact: A contact sheet is maintained for all members.
Procedures: Clear, accessible emergency exits must be maintained.
6. Safety Rules
No Jewelry: All jewelry must be removed, or taped over if necessary.
Visitors: Must fill out a waiver before stepping onto the mat.
